Eating in London

London’s food is a feast for your senses. When you are choosing where to eat, be adventurous. Try a fiery curry in Brick Lane, have dim sum in China town on a Sunday morning, treat yourself to a Michelin-starred meal or have afternoon tea at a grand hotel.

You can find recommendations for every type of restaurant at London Eating, Square Meal and, of course, Time Out. If you just want to have a beer in a traditional British pub, take a look at Traditional and Historic London Pubs or Fancyapint.

If you are after British food and drink, avoid the fakery of high street steakhouses. Most Londoners wouldn’t be caught dead in one of those places. Instead have a pint in Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese pub (built in 1667); try a glass of Chateau Grand Desir in the dusty glamour of Gordon’s wine bar or savour authentic English cooking at Porters restaurant.

Eating with children is straightforward as most places have children’s menus. Giraffe is the most family-friendly of all the chain restaurants. Adults can have tasty international dishes and a glass of wine. Children’s meals come with vegetables and ice cream for pudding so everyone is happy.

If you have a very young child, you can easily find baby food and formula milk at most supermarkets, convenience stores and Boots the Chemist shops.

If you want to eat at home, Tesco’s and Waitrose supermarkets can deliver food and groceries to your flat. Better still, you can stock up on delicious food from around the world at the food stalls in Portobello or Spitalfields markets.

If you want your dinner brought to you, try Deliverance. They can deliver Italian, European, American, Japanese, Chinese, Thai and Indian food as well as puddings and wine to most areas. If you have a very special occasion, you could even book a personal chef to cook for you in your flat.

You can do your Grocery shopping online at Tesco’s or Waitrose and they will delivery your order to your flat. If you need to visit a pharmacy, you can find a Boots the Chemist shop in most places.
